With over one-third of its 45,000 residents aged 65 and older, Pahrump offers several attractive features for retirees:
- Warm climate with mild winters
- Less than 30 rainy days annually
- Multiple entertainment options, including casinos and taverns
- Sanders Family Winery
- Death Valley tours
- Pahrump Valley Museum
- Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club
- Abundant outdoor recreation opportunities
The town's historical significance includes its connection to Ted Binion, son of Benny Binion (founder of Binion's Horseshoe and the World Series of Poker). Ted Binion famously buried rare silver coins and casino chips in a 12-foot deep vault in Pahrump, leading to a controversial murder case in 1998 involving his girlfriend Sandy Murphy and Richard Tabish.
Pahrump has experienced significant development since the 1960s, when it first received telephone service and paved roads. The town opened its first high school in 1974 and has continued to grow alongside Las Vegas. Today, it offers modern amenities while maintaining its desert charm, making it an increasingly popular choice for retirees seeking a blend of entertainment, outdoor activities, and favorable weather conditions.
For those interested in adult entertainment, Pahrump is also home to two legal brothels, as it's located in Nye County, one of ten Nevada counties where prostitution is legal.
