A second victim, age 42, was shot in the cheek during the failed robbery attempt but survived after receiving medical treatment at the same hospital.

The NYPD is currently searching for three suspects who fled the scene in a white SUV, possibly with front-end damage. A woman was also reportedly seen in the vehicle. Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the area to identify the perpetrators.

Local residents report that underground gambling operations are common in the neighborhood, though violent incidents are rare. The case has been classified as a homicide, and the suspects could face murder charges when apprehended.

"I think this happens a lot. It's just only this time people were shot," a local cabinet maker told the Daily News, expressing concerns about safety in the area. The incident has prompted some residents to consider relocating due to safety concerns.

Law enforcement officials continue to warn about the connection between illegal gambling operations and violent crime nationwide.
