Nevada leads the nation in per-capita sports betting, with residents wagering an average of $1,815 annually - nearly triple the national average, according to a recent study by Gamdom Casino. This puts the Silver State well ahead of New Jersey ($1,398) and New York ($1,087), despite ranking fifth in overall sports betting revenue.

Nevada's achievement is particularly notable given two key restrictions:

  • Mandatory in-person registration for mobile betting accounts
  • Absence of major operators FanDuel and DraftKings due to state requirements that operators must have physical casino presence

Top 10 States by Per-Capita Sports Betting:

  1. Nevada ($1,815)
  2. New Jersey ($1,398)
  3. New York ($1,087)
  4. Massachusetts
  5. Arizona
  6. Maryland
  7. Illinois
  8. Colorado
  9. Kansas
  10. Iowa

Notable outliers include Pennsylvania, which ranks 19th with $484 per capita despite being a major market by total revenue, and South Dakota at just $7.63 per capita due to limited betting availability at tribal casinos and Deadwood venues.

While Nevada has lost its position as the largest overall sports betting market since the 2018 Supreme Court PASPA ruling, its per-capita leadership demonstrates the state's continued dominance in gambling culture. Currently, 38 states plus Washington, DC offer some form of legal sports betting, with Missouri set to join in 2024.
