The JPY1.27 trillion (US$8 billion) project, located on Yumeshima Island, began preliminary site preparation in late 2023. Current work focuses on strengthening the artificial island's foundation with steel beams extending over 200 feet to reach bedrock.

The ownership structure consists of MGM Resorts and Orix each holding 42.5% equity, with the remaining 15% distributed among Japanese companies including Panasonic, Kansai Electric, and West Japan Railway.

Key Features of MGM Osaka:

  • 9 million square feet of indoor space
  • 2,500 hotel rooms
  • 3,500-seat theater
  • Convention center
  • Shopping mall
  • Spa and fitness center
  • Casino (limited to 3% of total floor space)
  • Estimated 200+ table games and 2,000 slot machines

The development represents a major transformation for Yumeshima Island, which previously served primarily as a logistics center. The project received its official gaming license in April 2023, becoming Japan's only approved casino resort.

MGM Osaka is scheduled for completion in 2030, with CEO Bill Hornbuckle stating their vision is to "bring MGM's 'wow' DNA from Las Vegas to Osaka and build a resort that will be a source of great pride in the community."
