A Maryland driver turned a frustrating highway encounter into a $500,000 lottery win by using the license plate numbers of a car that cut him off. The Anne Arundel County resident narrowly avoided an accident when another vehicle abruptly cut in front of him while returning from an out-of-town trip.

Instead of remaining angry, the man visited Doc's F&B Liquors in Glen Burnie, where he purchased ten "Pick 5" lottery tickets using the memorized license plate numbers. He wagered $1 on each ticket with identical numbers.

"I figure if you're going to play, you should play big," the winner told lottery officials.

The next morning, after scanning his tickets using the Lottery app, he discovered his win and immediately shared the good news with his mother. The fortunate player plans to use his windfall to pay off existing bills and make future investments.

As a result of selling the winning tickets, Doc's F&B Liquors will receive a $5,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

The winner reflected on the experience, noting through lottery officials that while drivers should follow road rules and show courtesy, this isn't always the case. In this instance, an unpleasant encounter led to an unexpected half-million-dollar payoff.
