A cruise passenger won a luxurious $50,000 room upgrade while playing blackout bingo aboard the Azamara Quest cruise ship. Michael Rivera secured the coveted Club World Owner's Suite after completing all 25 spaces on his bingo card first.

Rivera and his husband Garett Talcott invested $450 in nine bingo cards each, competing against approximately 30 other players. Their strategic bet paid off with a 20-day stay in the ship's premium suite, which typically costs up to $50,000 for two passengers.

The upgraded accommodations include:

• Full bathroom with jacuzzi tub and walk-in shower
• King-sized bed
• Two televisions
• Butler service
• 233-square-foot private veranda
• Extensive storage space

The win occurred aboard one of Azamara's four Malta-registered vessels, owned by Sycamore Partners following its acquisition from Royal Caribbean. Unlike most cruise lines, Azamara focuses on casual gaming like bridge rather than casino operations.

The cruise industry is experiencing significant growth, with the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) reporting record-breaking passenger numbers of 31.7 million in 2023, a 7% increase from 2019. The sector is expected to expand further, with 35 new vessels planned between 2024 and 2028, pushing the global fleet beyond 300 ships.
