A Las Vegas police sergeant, Kevin Menon, has been accused of orchestrating false arrests targeting primarily Black men, according to court documents. The incidents included attempts to plant counterfeit money on victims at The Cromwell casino.

Menon, who led a team of officers on the Strip, allegedly operated in plain clothes while his team wore uniforms. In one documented incident at The Cromwell, surveillance footage showed Menon attempting to hand counterfeit bills to two casino patrons, who refused and walked away. Uniformed officers then staged Menon's arrest before detaining and searching the two men.

The incident prompted multiple 911 calls, including one from a victim's fiancée who reported racial profiling. She described officers handcuffing her fiancé and his friend without explanation, searching them, and then claiming they had the "wrong person."

The investigation began after concerned officers on Menon's team reported his suspicious behavior to the Las Vegas police union. During a subsequent raid on Menon's home in August, investigators discovered approximately 500 images of child pornography, some depicting abuse of young girls.

Menon was arrested on August 30 and initially placed on paid leave, which has since been suspended. He has pleaded not guilty to possession of child pornography charges. A separate jury trial for the illegal detention charges is scheduled for March.

The case highlights concerns about racial profiling and abuse of power within law enforcement, with evidence suggesting a pattern of targeted harassment against Black casino patrons.
