F1 Grand Prix Forces Major Las Vegas Shows to Go Dark Again
The F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix is causing significant financial losses for Las Vegas entertainment venues for the second consecutive year, with many shows forced to cancel performances during race week.
Major production companies, including Cirque du Soleil, have suspended multiple shows until Sunday. Affected performances include "Mystere," "O," "KA," "Michael Jackson ONE," and "Mad Apple."
Other canceled shows include:
- Shin Lim's magic show at the Palazzo
- "Awakening" at the Wynn
- Carrot Top's comedy show
- "Fantasy" burlesque revue at the Luxor
- "Menopause The Musical" at Harrah's
- All V Theater productions in the Miracle Mile Shops
- Spiegelworld's "Atomic Saloon Show" and "DiscoShow"

The cancellations stem from logistical challenges caused by F1's use of the Las Vegas Strip as its racetrack, severely limiting access to venues for both tourists and employees. Unlike other major events, F1's impact on local infrastructure has proven particularly disruptive to entertainment venues.
Financial Impact:
- Spiegelworld reported $500,000 in losses during last year's race
- Larger venues like Cirque du Soleil, which can accommodate up to 9,000 viewers per show, likely face losses in the millions
- Resort venues may offset losses through increased room revenues, but independent producers have no such compensation
While some smaller businesses have pursued legal action against F1 for revenue losses, entertainment producers have not yet taken this step. Despite discussions about F1 providing compensation for affected businesses, no formal agreement has been reached.
Only David Copperfield and Adele will maintain their scheduled performances during the race weekend, with Adele concluding her 100-show residency on Saturday.
